Description
Leonora tells us how she eventually joined the civil service, but worked in a solicitor’s office after leaving school, taking shorthand notes. She moved down the road to John Dalton Street, working for the ‘Fine Cotton Spinners and Dobblers Association’ in the secretariat. At the start of the war her father encouraged her to take the civil-service exam, which she passed. Working at Ministry of Food in the ‘infestation’ branch, she dealt with infestation aboard ships sailing into Manchester Docks.
She continues noting their department's move to Didsbury, and her celebrations of VE Day at work: spilling ink on the step.
